The Breakfast Club
During a residency part of the Artist Access to Art Colleges Scheme at The University of Central Lancaster, Preston from November 2001 to May 2002, I formed a pop band by casting students in the roles of characters in the 1985 teen movie “The Breakfast Club” by John Hughes. I also wrote for the student magazine PLUTO during the residency to reveal the production of the work and explore the ideas of student life, reality TV, and manufactured pop bands. Devising workshops with design students, they styled, photographed, and publicised the band. Although they never performed.
The Breakfast Club (the band) are Malcolm Blair, Liz Mittler, Liam Whittaker, Elly Tasa and Andy Watson.
